DESIERTO DE LOS LEONES NATIONAL PARK.
This park is extraordinary, it is seven kilometers long and approximately three kilometers wide, with an oficial surface of 1,867 hectares. Its vegetation is composed by encino oak trees, pines and oyamel trees. It has a rugged topography with mountains and gorges plus many water streams and rivers. The climate is typical of a mountain weather; it is mild from November to May, and moist during the rest of the year. This park was called Los Leones (according Alfonso de Rosenzweing Díaz), not for all the lions or beasts that inhabited that area, but because of the bitter lawsuit in the XVIII century that two brothers with the last name Leon filed against José Patiño Ixtolinque, who was the descendant of the Coyoacán’s cacique, and wanted to own the property. |
