MONUMENT TO ALVARO OBREGON AND LA BOMBILLA PARK.
On June 17th 1928, inside the restaurant La Bombilla, there was a lunch to honor General Álvaro Obregón, who celebrated his re-election, and a young man thought it was the proper occasion to approach the President with excuse to show his drawings, and then he shot Obregón dead. Due to this episode and as a tribute to the revolutionary leader, the San Ángel District adopted the General’s name. On July 17th 1935, former President Lázaro Cárdenas inaugurated the monument to Álvaro Obregón, in memory of this great statesman, at the same place where he was killed. |
