Sunday, April 29 marks the International Day of Dance. This XXX edition brings together more than two thousand dancers from 90 dance companies that will be presented in different scenarios of Mexico City, in order to show the public the new expressions in classical ballet, contemporary dance, jazz, folk, flamenco and dance the world, all in tribute to the late maestro Michel Descombey.
As part of this worldwide celebration, the Theater System Mexico City will hold the fifth meeting Plural Dance with activities to be performed on the 16 delegation. Museums, cultural centers and outdoor forum will host conferences, academic activities, open classes and functions for the purpose of bringing people into the world of dance. Highlights include the gatherings "A city with vision. Beyond 2012… in art, education and culture " that will take place on Wednesday 25th of April at the Museum of Estanquillo and another session on 26th of April at the City Theatre.
Nina Serratos ,the Coordinator of System Theatres, announced the stages for the celebration: the Teatro de la Ciudad "Esperanza Iris," the Forum "A Poco No" and theaters Benito Juarez and Sergio Magana as well as La Cantera and capital's Zocalo, where the settings will be fitted to folk and contemporary dance. This time, the forum itinerant "El Blanquito" will set the stage for dances of the world.
All memorial events will begin at the same time, on Sunday April 29th with simultaneous reading in all settings of the Message of the International Dance Day 2012, established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1982. Immediately thereafter, the public can enjoy a festive atmosphere, the message of peace and brotherhood that conveys the universal language of dance.
The City Theatre's program starts at midday with the dance show for children “Peter and the Wolf”, under the artistic direction of Elizabeth Avalos. From 19:15 o’clock presents Antonio Salinas, Camerino 4, Magdalena Brezzo, the Theatre of Movement, and Alicia Sanchez, who will celebrate the anniversary of its founding.
The closing event will be held on the same Sunday, from 20:30 with a party at the Zocalo, accompanied by Pepe Arevalo and Mulattoes.
